Approval of 5-Year Review of the Sahtú Land Use Plan

Dear Planning Partners,

The Sahtú Land Use Planning Board (“SLUPB”) is happy to announce that the 5-Year Review of the Sahtú Land Use Plan (“Plan”) has now been approved, with the Government of Canada’s final approval on June 7, 2023.  This means that the amendments to the Plan, as per the 5-Year Review, are now legally binding.  As a background, the SLUPB adopted the 5-Year Review amendments addendum on May 31, 2021, with the sequential approvals by the Sahtú Secretariat Incorporated (July 9, 2021) and the GNWT (June 6, 2022) following.

In terms of next steps, the SLUPB has already started the graphic design of the updated Plan, and will be releasing it later this summer.  A notice will be published once this is complete.  In the meantime, the webmap on the SLUPB’s website as well as the shapefile, available through the “Request File(s)” tool, are now updated.  As well, all of the materials regarding the 5-Year Review Amendments are found on the SLUPB’s online Registry, accessed through its website.  If you have any questions, please reach out to the SLUPB’s Executive Director, Justin Stoyko, at exec_director@sahtulanduseplan.org, or by phone at 867-598-2055 ext.0.
