Updated Sahtú Land Use Plan Implementation Guide

Dear Planning Partners,

As mentioned in communication we posted on July 23rd, 2024, the Zone 41 - Nááts'ı̨hch’oh Amendments to the Sahtú Land Use Plan received its final approval on June 4, 2024, after almost a decade of work on this item.  At the time, it was anticipated that an updated Sahtú Land Use Plan would be released in September 2024, reflecting these changes.  Unfortunately, some adjustments were required to the amendments to make them fit into the current land use plan, as the amendment package was based on the previous land use plan.  The Sahtú Land Use Planning Board is working close with Approving Parties (SSI, GNWT, and Canada) on these adjustments.  The Approving Parties have now decided to follow a formal approval process for these adjustments, which will take time.

In the interim, the Sahtú Land Use Planning Board has decided to publish its updated Sahtú Land Use Plan Implementation Guide (2024).  This is not a document that needs approvals by the above-mentioned Approving Parties, but a Sahtú Land Use Planning Board guide for proponents and regulators in interpreting the Sahtú Land Use Plan.  This will help bring awareness to the new Conformity Requirement #20, which only applies to the new Zone 41, South Nahanni Watershed Special Management Zone.  The webmap on the Sahtú Land Use Planning Board's homepage, along with downloadable maps and GIS shapefiles, were updated on June 4th, 2024, when the amendment approval was announced.  These are therefore current.

The Sahtú Land Use Planning Board encourages questions from Planning Partners.  Questions can be directed to the Sahtú Land Use Planning Board's Executive Director, Justin Stoyko at 867-768-2055 ext. 1 or exec_director@sahtulanduseplan.org.

Máhsı.
