Updated Background Report to the Sahtú Land Use Plan and Website

Dear Planning Partners,

The Sahtú Land Use Planning Board (“SLUPB”) is pleased to publish and distribute its updated Background Report to the Sahtú Land Use Plan (“Plan”), which can also be found under "The Plan" webpage on our newly redesigned website.  The last revision of this document was released in 2010.  It compiles information from public sources about the Sahtú Settlement Area, informing the current social, economic, and natural environment of the region.  While much of the information has not changed, the document is more user friendly than its previous version.  It is hoped that with these changes, our Planning Partners and the general public will consult this document more frequently.

The Background Report is not a document that requires approvals by Approving Parties, as is the case with the Sahtú Land Use Plan.  It is a communication tool that is meant to inform future Plan revisions and amendments.  For this reason, the SLUPB encourages its Planning Partners to provide informal comments about this document so that these can be considered in its next iteration.  The SLUPB strives to have the most up-to-date information at its disposal to inform the planning process.  If you have any questions or comments, we recommend that Planning Partners contact our Executive Director, Justin Stoyko, by phone at 867-598-2055 ext.0 or by email at exec_director@sahtulanduseplan.org.

The SLUPB would like to thank everyone for their participation in land use planning activities.  Land use planning is a collaborative exercise that considers all comments and opinions.  Without your voice, it would not have been possible to get to where we are today.

Mahsı,

Heather Bourassa
